The SaskPower Energy Assistance Program is a free program designed to help lower-income households in Saskatchewan improve their home's energy efficiency and save money on their utility bills. The program provides a free home walk-through, one-on-one energy coaching, tailored energy efficiency information, and the free installation of several energy-efficient items such as smart thermostats, water saving shower heads and taps, etc.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must own or rent a single-detached home or semi-attached home, live in the home year-round, and be a customer of SaskPower, Saskatoon Light and Power, or Swift Current Light and Power. Renters need to obtain the consent of their landlord to participate. The program is also available to homeowners or renters who meet the income criteria and live in multi-residential unit buildings, such as apartments or condos. Eligible customers can save up to $230 annually on their utility bills by making their homes more energy efficient.
To apply for the Energy Assistance Program, applicants can visit the SaskPower website to access the online application form and complete the free online assessment tool. Once the application is accepted, a SaskPower representative will contact the applicant to set up the first of two appointments. The program is open to all eligible residents across Saskatchewan, including those in Saskatoon and Swift Current, regardless of whether they are SaskPower customers. The program is offered in partnership with the Government of Canada, the City of Saskatoon, and the City of Swift Current Light and Power
